Welcoming Our New Teacher!
Here are a few questions asked by the media writing team!Having a new teacher is always exciting and intriguing for a student. It means new opportunities, lessons, projects, and relationships. It opens up doors and possibilities for excellence. All teachers want the best for their students and will work diligently to help them achieve their goals, but that can bring stress for the teacher. Here at Arlington, we are welcoming a new teacher, Ms. Lyon!
Here are a few questions asked by the media writing team!
Q: What is your goal in teaching?
A: My goal as a teacher is to help teens grow academically and social-emotionally in order to become well-rounded, healthy adults. I believe that teaching through writing and literature to open discussions on core values can help prepare students for the next chapters of their lives. My intention is for all students to feel safe and comfortable enough in my class to be able to leave their worries behind while they learn.
Q: What are your hobbies?
A: I enjoy taking walks, gardening, and doing yoga.
Q: Do you have any pets?
A: I do! I have a service dog named Olive. She comes to school every day with me, which is great for me and even for the students in my classes.
Q: What’s your favorite part about English to teach?
A: My favorite English concept that I teach in my classes is creative writing. This is where students can truly express themselves through stories and poems. It also prompts discussions and deep thinking in the class.
Q: Why Arlington?
A: Living in Findlay, I have always admired how tight-knit Arlington was as a community. As I spend more time here, I am beginning to feel at home in this community, and I love the support that is given to the school!
Q: Where are you from?
A: I am from Findlay, OH.
Q: Do you have a favorite food?
A: Yes! I LOVE dates- they’re nature’s candy!
Q: Do you have a favorite television show/ movie?
A: The Office, Friends, and Parks and Rec are always my go-to.
Q: When did you start teaching?
A: This year is my first year teaching full-time. Before, I would travel to the Dominican-Republic and Haiti twice a year and teach English to the students and adults there.
Q: Where did you attend high school?
A: I went to Liberty-Benton High School.
Q: Are you excited for this year?
A: I am SO excited for this year! I finally feel that I am doing what I love the most- teaching! I love my students and I hope to keep them excited as well throughout this year!
We are so stoked about this new addition to the teaching staff! If you see her in the hallway, take a moment to say hello. Thank you, and welcome to the home of the Red Devils, Ms. Lyon!
