Visit to The Pulse

Eighth graders Emma Rossman, Madison Risner, and Emma Welker recently visited a broadcasting studio in Findlay, Ohio. Shortly before winter break, Gaben Helms and the students mentioned above designed a newspaper to highlight their recent read, Unbroken, by Laura Hillenbrand. In Miss Hiller’s 8th grade English Language Arts class, students learned how to write news stories, obituaries, feature stories, and specialty stories then submitted their newspapers to an evaluation committee for review. It was a unanimous decision that The Sister Daily Prophet written by Rossman, Helms, Risner, and Welker was the most impressive of all newspapers submitted. As a reward, students traveled to The University of Findlay’s headquarters of The Pulse, the campus newspaper. Pictured are Rossman, Risner, and Welker. Helms could not attend. In the studio, students practiced reading and recording a newscast that had been written by U of F students earlier that week.
