Military Appreciation Night

By: Abbie Sheets

We all know what the servicepersons, past, present, and future, do for us each day. They make tremendous sacrifices to give us the freedoms that we often overlook. Although only one day is not enough, we are taking the time to honor our military personnel this Friday at the boys’ basketball game.

Each year, OHSAA encourages students to dedicate a game to honor the military all on the same day. The chosen day this year is January 18. At Arlington, all military, from Arlington and North Baltimore, who is the visiting school, will receive free admission with the presentation of their military ID. There will be an announcement during the game for those who are serving or have served to stand and be recognized. The Arlington and North Baltimore choirs will also combine to sing the National Anthem. The Arlington choir alone will sing a medley of military songs where each member who hears their branch song will be asked, if desired, to stand. The loud crowd theme for the game is “military/camouflage” and “red, white, and blue”.

Our fighting men and women that wear the uniform are constantly forgotten about. We ignore the constant battles they fight to give us the life that we have and love. Our jobs as citizens are to recall what all they have done for us. Remembrance days like this are small reminders of what our country stands for. Stand alongside the brave men and women who wear or have worn the uniform and honor them for their sacrifices.
