The junior high this month will be hosting multiple fundraisers in an attempt to raise their goal of $1,000 to go towards building a well in South Sudan. This is a project called the Iron Giraffe Challenge.
The Iron Giraffe Challenge is a nation-wide challenge set in place by Salva Dut and a group of his friends. What began as a project to raise the money to put a singular well in place in large South Sudan village. Today, however, the project has raised enough money to have over 300 operating wells built in South Sudan. This project, and the lives improved by it, could not be possible without the 214 schools that have taken the pledge to help raise money, and Arlington middle school has decided to take the pledge as well this year. It is hard to believe but the time has arrived for our 1923 Arlington School Building to be taken down.
We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to take down the building.
The demolition of the building will begin on Monday, June 22. Crews will work extended hours to get the building down in a short two-week period rather than a longer two-month period.
For those interested, outside of the construction fence, there will be a pile of bricks where you are welcome to take a souvenir brick. Bricks will only be available for two weeks and will then be cleaned up.
Please mark August 1st at 10:00 am on your calendar for our dedication to the new building.
