Arlington NHS Chapter Earns Service Award
Morghan Taylor
The 2024-2025 NHS Chapter received the “Excellence in Service” award for their many acts of community service. Last year, the program collected donations for the Salvation Army, served breakfast to local Veterans, picked up litter with the Hancock County Parks District, organized cake raffles at basketball games, and raised $500 to go towards a “Buddy Bench” for the new school. In addition to these service acts, they were also able to establish goals and plans with Arlington Heart and Soul for future community involvement.
In her first year as the NHS Advisor, Mrs. Lindsey Fenstermaker said, “It has been an exciting experience to work with students that are enthusiastic about service and demonstrate a strong vision for the future”.
Mrs. Fenstermaker also mentions that together as a club they were dedicated to make everlasting changes that will forever impact the Arlington school and community. Some of the service plans for the 2025-2026 NHS Chapter involve helping with local blood drives, serving breakfast to the Veterans, helping with the Arlington Heart & Soul Chili Cookoff, collecting for the Salvation Army food drive, assisting the Women’s Resource Center at their annual turkey trot, caroling at the nursing home, conducting cake raffles, and other projects as the year goes on. The 2025-2026 NHS Chapter currently has 7 members until the induction banquet at the end of October.
