Junior-Led Girls Basketball Team Looks to Improve

November 26, 2024

Succeeding last year’s 10-13 record (4-4 BVC) the Arlington Girls’ basketball team is striving for yet another improved season. Entering his sixth year of coaching, head Coach Jimmy Nicholson said, “I’m looking forward for us to have a good year, though we are very young and small this year.” The team is excited for a season of learning and growth.

This year, things look a little different. With no returning seniors, the team will rely on three team-leading juniors. Jada Smith has been a key leader for the team for the past two seasons. Jada averaged 8.3 points, 6.3 rebounds, 2 steals, and 2 assists per game last season. She also earned 3rd Team BVC last year.

Mea Alexander, an excellent point guard on all fronts (shooting and playmaking), will be yet another young leader for the team this year. Mea averaged 8.5 points, 2 assists, and 2 rebounds per game last season.

Madison Ernst, a key defensive player and third-year letter-winner, returns as a strong shooter and playmaker.

Contributing to the varsity squad include sophomores Lexy Grieser, Madeline Hartman, Allison Settlage, and Paige Clevenger who will be stepping up this season. Freshman Raeleigh Bower, Delaney Glick, and Jillian Heacock will also significantly boost the team’s numbers.
