Spring sports have begun! Arlington’s Track and Field team has more than doubled in size this season with 45 members on its roster. This influx includes many talented freshmen and returning lettermen. The track team is set to make records with sophomore Calvin Willow, high-jump record holder and State runner-up, and the girls’ 4x800 team who was only seconds behind the school record. Sophomore Trenton Heacock will be a top contender in hurdles and freshman Lexi Grieser is primed to set record times in the 100m and 200m sprint races.

This season, the Red Devils will be led by boys’ coach Jon Branan and girls’ coach PD Hunter.  The coaches were optimistic about the season, with  Branan saying, “I am very excited about this coming season. This is the most guys we’ve had out on the team. We have a lot of great hard-working athletes. I think if they stay dedicated and put in the hard work, we have the potential to have an amazing year! I’m really looking forward to seeing what these guys can accomplish”.

PD Hunter stated,  “I’m also excited about this upcoming track season. We have almost everyone back from last year plus some nice additions. I believe we will work hard to earn our spots in events and that we can be competitive”.

The track team’s first meet is March 26 held at Hardin Northern at 4:30PM. The complete schedule can be found on the website.

Did You Know?

From January to March, Arlington fielded an indoor track team with three members: Clay Hurt, Gage Isenbarger, and Logan Hartman. They created records in vault, 60 meters, 200 meters, shot-putt, and weight throw. The members competed every few weekends at local colleges including The University of Findlay, the University of Tiffin, and Bowling Green State University.

AHS Indoor Track created a great opportunity for students to prepare for the outdoor season as well as attract new people to join the team.
