Get Cultured, Arlington! -Christmas Movies
By: Martha Foltz
As Christmas break approaches, the opportunity of boredom and wasted time threatens to take over our 2 weeks of freedom. Christmas is a time of magic and miracles for us to experience-- and watch. For decades, cheesy, heartfelt movies were made for our enjoyment. Take advantage! Students’ opinions were collected for your entertainment. So, sit back, click on the TV, and enjoy your break!
I think the best movie to watch over Christmas break would be The Grinch, the live-action version. It’s a movie about the acceptance of others and treating them with respect. It gives you the heart-warming feels that is great for this time of year. It’s about a character called “The Grinch” who hates Christmas and the people in the nearby town who celebrate it. He is given a backstory for why he hates it so much, and it helps the viewer sympathize with him. Throughout the movie, we follow his story during the Christmas season and how he deals with his emotions.
I believe that the best Christmas movie is Polar Express. Polar Express is a great movie because of the storyline. A boy embarks on a journey to the North Pole and along the way discovers his true self. This old tale is based on a classic Christmas book. Through his journey he learns that the wonder of life never fades to those who believe. I grew up watching this movie on cold evenings before Christmas. The magic of Christmas shines through this story.
My recommendation is White Christmas. This movie is a classic tale with some of the best singers and actors. Bing Crosby, Rosemary Clooney, Danny Kaye! If you’re feeling like an oldie AND a goodie, watch this movie and be full of the holiday spirit!
