Advice From an Alum

By: Kylee Crist

I decided to interview our school’s French teacher, Mrs. Emily Borkosky, on advice she could give to students that she has learned over the years. Here’s what she had to say:

What advice do you have to give to students?

-Find something you care about and go after it.

What are some things you wish you would have known about before being thrown into the ‘adult world’?

-I wish I would have known that my happiness is my own responsibility. I shouldn’t let other people decide if I’m happy.

Did you always know what you wanted to do when you were younger? What advice do you have for those who are still unsure of what they want to do after high school?

-No. Don’t worry, keep an open mind, and don’t be afraid to try new things.

If you could go back in time, what advice would you give yourself?

-Pay attention in French class! It would have been a lot easier if I would have known I wanted to be a French teacher.

What are some things you wish you knew about students or wish they would let you know about?

-One) What’s going on in their lives. Two) When they enjoy things in class. I always hear when students don’t like things, but not often what they actually do like.
