Where Are They Going?

We’d love for you to get to know Mrs. Laurie Butler!

Mrs. Butler has been a teacher here at Arlington for 35 years. This is her final year teaching, so we thought we would ask her a couple of questions to get to know a little more about her.

How long have you been teaching?

“I have spent my whole career at Arlington, 35 years. I was married when I started but didn't have my children till my 3rd and 5th years of teaching. I taught in elementary first: Four years in 3rd, and 4 years in 6th, then the rest has been 7th and 8th grades.”

What is your most memorable experience you’ve had while teaching here at Arlington?

“The most memorable years were probably while my kids were in high school, going to all of their sporting and band events. The All Brass always gives me goosebumps when they come on the field or down the street in a parade. That Arlington Pride will never fade.  I enjoyed being stage manager for Mrs. Griffin, and may still do that if she wants me to.  There are special kids in every class and I'm sure I will miss teaching. I try to stay in touch with past students on Facebook. All of you will be "my kids" forever when I see you working somewhere, or at the Arlington Fest.”

What are your plans after you are finished teaching?

“I hope to travel a little more when I retire and spend more time on our boat at Lake Erie. My daughter is getting married in October, and there is a lot to do for that. I'm looking forward to having grandchildren. I am too much of a people person to sit at home, so I will take day trips with girlfriends until my husband retires, do some volunteering, and maybe work part-time. My husband and I are hoping to take a trip out West in the next couple of years.”
